Introduction to High-Performance Computing at UMD Workshop (New Users)

Noon - 3 p.m.

Location: Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center Room 2204

This workshop is targeted at new users of the university's high-performance computing resources, especially those with limited or no HPC experience.

This workshop will introduce participants to the basics of high-performance computing (HPC), and will briefly cover:

  • general HPC concepts, terminology, etc.
  • accessing the Zaratan cluster
  • accessing software installed on the cluster
  • transferring files
  • submitting jobs on the cluster

Participants should bring their own device (laptop) with a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari) and a terminal application (SSH, e.g. PuTTY) to access the cluster via the Open-OnDemand web portal and UNIX/Linux shell; participants without an account on Zaratan will get a temporary account on the cluster.

If you have questions or need more information about the workshop, please feel free to contact us.
